RESOLUTION NO. RS2016-207
A resolution recognizing and honoring The Harpeth Hall School on its Sesquicentennial.
WHEREAS, during the 2015-2016 school year, The Harpeth Hall School is commemorating the 150th Anniversary of the founding of Ward Seminary to honor and celebrate the history of excellence in girls’ education that has been built through Ward Seminary, Ward-Belmont and Harpeth Hall; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the school’s 150th Anniversary celebration is to galvanize the community through inclusive events that deepen the appreciation of Harpeth Hall’s past and present and shine a light on the transformational impact of single-gender education in Nashville and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Harpeth Hall is an independent college preparatory school serving 690 girls and young women from 35 zip codes across Middle Tennessee, where each student realizes her highest intellectual ability in the sciences, the humanities and the arts, and discovers her creative and athletic talents; and
WHEREAS, the core purpose of the Harpeth Hall faculty is to nurture a sense of wonder; to instill a will and facility for learning and to promote cultural understanding, environmental stewardship and service to others; and
WHEREAS, Harpeth Hall develops responsible citizens who have global perspectives and make meaningful contributions to their communities and the world, with more than 15,000 hours of community service annually; and
WHEREAS, with a tradition of excellence and a commitment to life-long learning, Harpeth Hall educates young women to think critically, to lead confidently and to live honorably; and
WHEREAS, Ward Seminary, Ward-Belmont, and Harpeth Hall together have graduated over 15,000 women who have made a lasting impact on our City; and
WHEREAS, it is fitting and proper that the Metropolitan Council recognize and honor The Harpeth Hall School on its Sesquicentennial.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE METROPOLITAN GOVERNMENT OF NASHVILLE AND DAVIDSON COUNTY:
Section 1. The Metropolitan Council hereby goes on record as recognizing and honoring The Harpeth Hall School on its Sesquicentennial.
Section 2. The Metropolitan Council Office is directed to prepare a copy of this Resolution to be presented to Dr. Stephanie Balmer, Harpeth Hall Head of School.
Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect from and after its adoption, the welfare of The Metropolitan Government of Nashville and Davidson County requiring it.
