Metro Planning Department

The Planning Department's responsibilities include:
- Working with local communities to create appropriate land-use policies and community plans
- Making recommendations to the Planning Commission on zoning decisions
- Providing design services
- Supporting more sustainable development
Planning is one of Metro's Development Services departments - the links below lead to basic information about applications, permits, and the development assistance that each department provides.
The Development Services page provides current information from Planning, Codes, Public Works, and Metro's other development-services departments.
The Development Tracker page is updated daily with new information on recent development filings.
Another planner earns professional certification
Greg Johnson of our Land Development division is the twelfth Metro planner to earn what the American Planning Association calls “a high mark of distinction” in the planning profession - membership in the American Institute of Certified Planners.
AICP certification is awarded to experienced planners who pass a rigorous examination covering the history and theory of planning, urban design, law, ethics and quantitative methods.
Easier access to property maps
We’ve added a direct link to our online property maps, near the bottom of the menu on the left side of this page. Those maps and many others are still accessible through the “mapping and GIS” link.
