The spotlight series is part of the Sports Authority’s year-long celebration of the 50th Anniversary of Title IX, and recognizes Nashvillians who have made not only a significant and long-lasting impact as an athlete, but have opened doors, removed barriers and encouraged participation in sports for girls and women.
In August the Sports Authority recognized Chandra Cheeseborough- Guice, Olympian and the Director of Men’s and Women’s Track and Field at Tennessee State University. Cheeseborough- Guice won two gold medals and a silver at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, was the sprinters coach for Team USA that competed in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and was the head coach for Team USA for the 2009 IAAF World Outdoor Championships. Cheeseborough-Guice is a nine-time OVC Coach of the Year. She is an inductee of the National Track and Field Sports Hall of Fame, the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, the Florida Sports Hall of Fame, and the National High School Sports Hall of Fame.
