The Public Property Division processes real estate acquisitions, disposals and leases on behalf of Metro Departments. The division of public property administration was established by the Metro Charter and is further described in the Metro Code of Ordinances.
This division works very closely with other departments within Metro related to purchasing, selling, and leasing of real property.

Guidelines For Purchasing Surplus Back Tax Property:
- Before any surplus back tax property can be sold, all Metro departments have the right to claim the property if there is a use for it.
- All sales have to be approved by Metro Council.
- All adjacent property owners to the subject property have an equal chance at purchasing the property and will be notified of sale via mail outlining the bidding process. Interested buyers that do not own adjacent lots are not eligible to purchase back tax parcels.
