Metro Nashville Transportation Plan
Metro Nashville’s Transportation Plan proposes core categories for investment that reflect our communities’ and the region’s stated priorities: Mass transit, neighborhood infrastructure (sidewalks, bikeways, greenways), a “state of good repair” for roads and bridges, traffic operations and signals, and safety/Vision Zero. The transportation plan will connect Nashvillians to jobs, health care, education, and social activities.

Vision Zero

Mayor John Cooper committed to Vision Zero in January 2020, during his remarks at the annual Walk Bike Nashville Pedestrian Memorial Event held on the steps of Historic Courthouse.

Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program
The Metro Neighborhood Traffic Calming Program focuses on mitigating the undesirable effects of traffic in residential neighborhoods. Demand for the program, with over 200 applications, currently outpaces our available resources requiring NDOT to prioritize projects. Neighborhoods are prioritized based on safety experience (70%) and impacts on non-drivers (30%).

Connect Downtown
Connect Downtown is a joint project of the Nashville Department of Transportation (NDOT), WeGo Public Transit, the Nashville Downtown Partnership, and the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) to improve mobility and address traffic congestion in the downtown core. This effort will identify projects, programs, and policies to help us better manage Downtown’s increasing congestion and make it easier for people to get around by all modes of transportation.

Imagine East Bank Vision Plan
Metro Nashville released the Imagine East Bank Planning Study for public comment on August 22, 2022. This plan prioritizes transit, pedestrians and bicyclists, our most vulnerable users, over cars and puts safety at the forefront of its design. The well-connected transportation grid provided by the East Bank's main artery, the East Bank Boulevard, outlines a comprehensive network of multimodal streets, protected bike lanes and low stress bikeways, comfortable sidewalks that will significantly enhance safety, comfort, and accessibility for non-motorized travel.
