College Student Voter Frequently Asked Questions
I’m registered to vote in Davidson County, attend college out-of-town and cannot get home to vote. What do I do?
If you registered to vote by mail, you must vote in person the first time you vote. If this is not your first time voting, you may request an absentee ballot and vote by mail.
If this is your first time to vote and you registered in-person with the Davidson County Election Commission (or with a deputized election representative at your high school), you may request an absentee ballot and vote by mail.

Where should a college student register to vote? How do I vote?
I’m a college student from out-of-state. How do I register to vote in my home state?
Contact either your local election commission office or go to www.eac.gov (U.S. Election Assistance Commission).
If you need to register in person (in order to obtain an absentee ballot), but will not return to your home state before the registration deadline, go to an ROTC office on a college campus or military recruitment office to submit an in-person registration. The office will mail your voter registration application to your local county election office marked as ‘in-person’.
U.S. Election Assistance Commission
I’m a Davidson County resident attending UT-Martin. I cannot return to Nashville to register and will need to vote by absentee ballot in the upcoming election. What do I do?
Visit the Weakley County Election Commission (WCEC) office to complete an in-person registration by the registration deadline. The WCEC will stamp the registration with a timely date and forward it to the Davidson County Election Commission (DCEC). After the DCEC receives your in-person registration and request for an absentee ballot, an absentee ballot will be sent to you.
Note: This process may be used between Tennessee counties.
