This afternoon, the Metro Nashville Department of Emergency Communications (DEC) helped guide a lost biker to safety using live video and location tools available inside the 911 center.
At 4:20 p.m., Dispatcher Kyle Bolt, a 2-year DEC veteran, answered a 911 call from a caller who reported being lost in the woods near Cane Ridge Park in Antioch.
The caller told Bolt they did not need any medical help; however, they needed to get back to their vehicle.
Bolt used enhanced location technology including what3words, and Prepared Live video to locate the caller and direct them out in real time.
What3words narrowed the location to a 10-foot square using a simple three-word code. Bolt then sent a Prepared Live link, which allowed the caller to stream live video directly from their phone so Bolt could see the livestream.
Bolt used the video and location data to verify the caller's position, confirm their direction, and give step-by-step instructions back to the trailhead. Metro Nashville Police Department and the Nashville Fire Department monitored the situation and remained on standby.
Bolt remained speaking to the caller while simultaneously viewing the livestream until it was verified that the caller was safe and located their vehicle. The caller left the area and did not require further assistance.
