The Radio Communications Division operates and maintains the infrastructure and two-way radios that provide critical voice and wireless data communications for first responders in Davidson County and across Middle Tennessee. While primarily supporting public safety, the 800 MHz Radio System is used by multiple Metro departments, Nashville Electric Service, and various federal, state, and local government agencies. It supports interoperable voice communications for over 20,000 users.
In addition, conventional radio systems continue to enable interoperability with first responders from surrounding counties, as well as state and federal agencies.
Aligned with its public safety mission, Radio Communications also maintains Metro's network of 113 tornado warning sirens, operated by the Office of Emergency Management (OEM). These sirens are strategically placed to alert
both urban and rural populations across Davidson County in the event of a tornado warning.
The division's experienced and certified technicians maintain the radio system infrastructure and all fixed radio equipment for Metro's public safety and public service agencies.
