The Metro Planning Commission adopted the Global Mall Area Master Plan on July 25, 2024. The Plan is a culmination of robust community and stakeholder engagement. Across three public workshops, more than 30 stakeholder meetings and community events, and an interactive project website, over 1,200 people have participated in the master planning process and given clear direction for how the Global Mall area can best serve the community. The plan document includes a detailed vision for the study area, implementation recommendations, and urban design guidelines.
The Executive Summary an overview of the process, key ideas and concepts, and recommendations in the master plan document:

About the Global Mall Planning Study
The Global Mall, once a vibrant shopping district known as Hickory Hollow, had only a few stores remaining by 2009. In 2012, the mall rebranded as Global Mall at the Crossings and began transforming into a mix of uses. Today, the site includes a satellite campus for Nashville State Community College, the Southeast Branch of the Nashville Public Library, and the Southeast Regional Community Center of the Metro Parks system. Given its location and scale, this site has potential as a neighborhood community center as well as a significant regional presence. Metro Council voted in late April 2022 to purchase a significant portion of the Global Mall site and an adjoining office building.
The Global Mall is strategically located between Downtown Nashville and the cities of La Vergne, Smyrna, and Murfreesboro. It is located along Bell Road, adjacent to I-24 and approximately 2.5 miles from the Murfreesboro Pike corridor. The Global Mall is the southern terminus on the Murfreesboro Pike/Bell Road WeGo transit corridor, the highest ridership bus route in Nashville. Future plans call for upgrading this route to a full Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) line, including building a regional transit center at the Global Mall.
In October 2022, Metro Nashville Planning Department kicked off a redevelopment study of the Global Mall area. The Global Mall Study developed a master plan that builds on community ideas to guide future development in the Global Mall area in Antioch, Tennessee. During this study, the community established a vision to transform the site through land use, transportation, open space, and community design decisions that will positively shape the neighborhood's future.
