Who: Metro Social Services, "The Santas", the Nashville Black Police Association, and the Tennessee Bikers Association
What: This morning, Metro Social Services, with the help of our partners, gave away food boxes to nearly 130 families. The food boxes included some holiday food items and other food to last families, depending on size, anywhere from 1-3 weeks.
Additionally, 300 jumbo size red bags stuffed with toys and kid bikes were given to children.
MSS has hosted this event for a little over 35 years for Davidson County families.
Process: Clients enrolled in our case management system who expressed barriers to being able to feed their families and provide gifts for the holiday season, were invited to register for our annual holiday giveaway. Clients stated the number in their family and toys of interest for their kids. MSS and its partners – AKA Santa's elves – took those lists to the store and went shopping.
Today, recipients pulled up in line, were greeted by the Santas who handed them little treats as MSS staff loaded up their vehicles with their food boxes and gifts. Some even stopped briefly to take photos with The Santas.
Today's annual event follows our annual Thanksgiving giveaway where we provided food boxes to nearly 300 recipients. Food boxes, packed with holiday staples, lasted families up to 3 weeks.
