The Mayor's Office of Performance Management ("OPM") has been established to enhance customer service for residents and save taxpayer money by ensuring greater accountability and improved efficiency. It provides leadership guidance, and consultancy services for all Metro Nashville departments/agencies on performance management and organizational, and process streamlining. These efforts aim to improve programs and enhance operational effectiveness and efficiency to provide internal and external customer’s better service. OPM bridges budgeting and financial management by using performance-based information to support budget requests and performance results for financial accountability. It also advises whether program goals are appropriate and sufficient for achieving the purpose of the programs and assesses programmatic performance across the departments while guiding means to improve programmatic performance and efficiency.

Metro Nashville submitted an application to become certified as a What Works City. Subsequent to the application, a site visit was conducted and we are awaiting the results of the examination and the certification level.
The Nashville Tech Studio, Metro’s internal innovation program, was launched to collect and curate department challenges. When available, funding for curated innovation projects is deployed and departments are paired with researchers at local universities to collaborate and develop innovative tech solutions.
In conjunction with the Nashville Innovation Alliance, Metro Nashville conducted its inaugural Civic Tech Jam event. Using a reverse-pitch model, eight Metro Nashville departments/agencies pitched their challenges to a room full of researchers from local universities. Four researchers from local universities were awarded up to $40,000 each to work with the winning department to create an innovative tech solution to tackle/reslove the challenge.
Selected as host city for the annual National League of Cities City Summit event (Fall 2026). In addition to hosting the event, Metro Nashville will provide administrative support and collaborate with Metro departments to develop content for 17 mobile workshops.
