November 2025 marked one year since Nashville voters approved Choose How You Move, and implementation is already delivering real results. In the first year alone, $163 million in projects were launched to modernize transit and mobility infrastructure. Early improvements—such as a new queue-jump lane on Murfreesboro Road and systemwide reliability upgrades—are helping buses move more efficiently and contributing to increased ridership. These foundational investments set the stage for the next phases of work, including All-Access Corridors, expanded service, and enhanced safety.
Current Projects and 2026 Investment Priorities
Sidewalks
The program is funding sidewalk design, engineering, and construction to connect residents in 10 neighborhoods to major transit routes, providing safe, convenient, and accessible connections for all users.
Signals
Fiber
The program is supporting the design, construction, and implementation of a fiber communication network, hardware, and traffic network head-end and control equipment. Fiber installation is underway along Nolensville Pike, with design in progress for Gallatin Pike and Lebanon Pike. These investments are critical to countywide traffic signal upgrades that enable faster, more reliable transit service and improved commutes.
Technology
The program is funding planning, engineering, construction, and implementation of smart signal technology at 115 intersections, along with advanced traffic management software. This work supports the long-term goal of upgrading 592 signalized intersections across the county to improve system performance. Final design and testing of traffic cabinet network infrastructure upgrades are also underway.
Service
Transit Stops and Shelter Improvements
The program is advancing planning, design, and implementation of improvements to transit stops and shelters, including enhancements to the airport transit station and its connections.
Bus Fleet Expansion
The program is expanding the bus fleet to support increased service. New 40-foot buses are anticipated for delivery in 2027–2028, and the additional fleet is essential to delivering service growth.
Bus Operations and Maintenance Facility
Planning and site acquisition are underway for a new bus operations and maintenance facility. This facility will support the expansion of WeGo services beyond the capacity of existing facilities and is fundamental to the long-term growth of the transit system.
WeGo Service Expansions
Expanded service went into effect in July 2025 and January 2026, increasing frequency and improving access across the network.
Journey Pass Program
The program has soft-launched Journey Pass, providing free fares for limited-income riders.
SoBro Transit Center
Early planning is underway for a new transit center south of Broadway in downtown Nashville.
Safety
Complete Streets
The program is funding reconstruction of Edgehill/Chestnut Street from 21st Avenue to Lafayette Street to improve safety and connectivity for transit users, whether they are walking, biking, or driving to their stop. Planning and design are also underway for mobility lanes on Union Street, 7th Avenue, and Demonbreun Street, along with projects on East Thompson Lane, downtown multiuse lanes, and the East Nashville Spokes network.
Transit Safety Division Fleet
The program is providing safety and security upgrades for the new Transit Safety Division within MNPD, while WeGo has increased systemwide security coverage.
All-Access Corridors
The program is advancing planning, design, engineering, and implementation of All-Access Corridors, including Gallatin Pike/Main Street and Nolensville Pike. Planning is underway for Complete Street improvements on Gallatin Pike from Alta Loma Road to Liberty Lane, with All-Access Corridor development from Interstate Drive to Eastland Avenue. Fiber installation and signal upgrades along Nolensville Pike are supporting future corridor operations. The program is also funding design and community engagement for the West End Avenue Curbside Bus Lane Pilot between 17th and 25th Avenues. Together, these projects will improve service along Nashville’s busiest transit routes.
