Choose How You Move is inspired by more than a decade’s worth of public input and planning on transportation infrastructure, intended to bring to life a Nashville for Nashvillians. In 2024, Mayor Freddie O’Connell championed securing dedicated funding for transportation improvements through a half-cent (0.5%) sales tax surcharge, as permitted through Tennessee’s IMPROVE ACT.
On November 5, 2024, Nashville voted to approve that half-cent surcharge, securing a dedicated funding source for transportation and mobility projects.
The core of Choose How You Move improvements include:
- Expand and improve sidewalks
- Upgrade traffic signals
- Provide 24/7 transit service citywide
- Enhance safety across neighborhoods
Before transit went to the ballot, Metro-Nashville collaborated with diverse stakeholders and residents, turning years of input into a shared vision for a modern transportation system that meets community needs. As Choose How You Move continues to build momentum, we remain committed to listening and learning from you.
On November 5, 2025, Nashville celebrated one year since the passage of Choose How You Move. Within the first 365 days, Metro has implemented $163 million in projects that will serve as the foundation for all the changes still to come. Choose How You Move is creating a connected and safer Nashville with many options to navigate through, including the Journey Pass program—Nashville’s first income-based free fare program.
