Why do you need my lease and ledger when I apply for rental assistance?
- The lease is needed to confirm the household tenants, address, and residential information.
- The ledger is needed to confirm payments and fees.
What is a rent ledger?
- A rent ledger is a detailed, chronological record of all financial transactions between a landlord and tenant.
- Applicant will need to get the ledger from their landlord or property management.
Who is not eligible for rental or mortgage assistance?
- Those working seasonal, part time, temporary, commission or contract, on call, or as needed positions.
- Those with zero income prior to the documented hardship.
- If your hardship is determined to have been expected or avoidable.
How is my income counted?
- For all programs, income count is based on your gross amount earned.
Who qualifies for a homeless deposit?
- Applicants with proven documentation that they do not reside in a household of any kind.
- Eligible applicants were in a shelter and/or unhoused.
- Applicants must have documented 30 days’ worth of income.

What is a 12-month billing history?
- A 12-month billing history is a record of a customer’s service usage and payment activity of the past year – applicant will need to get this from their energy provider (i.e. NES, Piedmont).
What can delay payment?
- When the applicant does not provide all required documentation for the respective assistance program(s).
- For rent or mortgage: When applicant doesn’t provide the correct landlord or mortgage contact information (Name of property or private landlord, address, phone number, and a specific email address where documents should be sent).
- Note: Your landlord or mortgage company will need to complete some payment documentation, so all contact information is needed.
For utility assistance: When the applicant does not enter the correct account number from their bill, this can delay the payment process.
