Today’s youth are growing up in a world where digital technology is seamlessly integrated into nearly every aspect of life. To support and inspire future innovators, the Metropolitan Action Commission has partnered with the Greater Nashville Technology Council to create meaningful pathways in information technology for young people.
On Thursday, July 17 at noon, 26 youth participants in Metro Action’s POWER Youth STEAM Camp will present their final projects at a public showcase. The event highlights the culmination of a 7-week program that provided hands-on instruction in app development, artificial intelligence, digital product design, and coding. The teens will demonstrate their work in a fair-style format, reflecting all elements of STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics.
The MAC STEAM Camp is designed for youth ages 13-15 who are older siblings of children enrolled in Head Start and Early Head Start. The initiative is part of the agency’s two-generation (“whole family”) strategy that supports the economic and social wellbeing of both children and adults in the same family. Parents of the youth participants are also invited to attend the event.
