The Office of Homeless Services (OHS) will extend the operating hours of the emergency overflow shelter starting this evening, reopening at 4:00 p.m. The shelter will operate daily from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 a.m. from Friday, January 10 through Sunday, January 12, allowing guests access during colder overnight temperatures.
To support those in need during daytime hours, OHS has partnered with Nashville Rescue Mission and Room In The Inn to provide shelter until 3:00 p.m. daily. Guests can then transition to the Metro Overflow Shelter as needed when it reopens at 4:00 p.m.
The Office of Homeless Services is executing the plan reviewed by the Homelessness Planning Council in Spring of 2024, and with shelter capacity anticipated during the day, the overflow shelter will again open to increase capacity early each evening.
The shelter will temporarily close between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each day for cleaning and sanitization to ensure the health and safety of staff and guests.
"Our priority is the health and safety of everyone using and working at the shelter," said April Calvin, Director of the Office of Homeless Services.
OHS continues to monitor weather conditions closely and will make further adjustments to shelter operations if necessary. OHS carefully monitors shelter capacities throughout events like Friday's winter storm.
