The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) has partnered with the Tennessee Performing Arts Center (TPAC) to host a four-week rideshare zone pilot program starting Tuesday, January 28, through Sunday, February 23, 2025.
The pilot aims to improve event-related congestion at the TPAC. By establishing rideshare zones, the pilot seeks to enhance the rideshare experience while increasing patron safety by providing drivers with a dedicated space for passenger loading outside of the flow of traffic.
Thousands of patrons will attend TPAC performances during the pilot, and NDOT will utilize locations that typically serve as metered parking spaces as two designated rideshare and taxi pick-up and drop-off zones on Deaderick Street. These spaces will be clearly marked and monitored by NDOT Code Enforcement to provide clear, safe, pull-in passenger loading areas that keep traffic moving in the area during patron arrival and departure times.
Pilot Goals and Next Steps
The goals of this program are to create a more organized and efficient transportation system for TPAC events and also provide meaningful data to assist NDOT in developing a rideshare zone framework guide that can be used to stage other pick-up and drop-off zones throughout downtown as part of the Connect Downtown Action Plan.
The Connect Downtown Action Plan, approved by Metro Council in April 2024, calls for a variety of strategies to address congestion in Nashville's downtown core, including promoting safe, curb-side passenger loading.
