Council District 17 Street Sweeping Program
The Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure (NDOT) is continuing the Street Sweeping Program in Council District 17 as part of an ongoing pilot that began six months ago. This initiative plays a vital role in our citywide efforts to maintain cleaner, safer, and more sustainable streets.
Street sweeping not only enhances public safety by removing leaves and debris that collect along curbs and gutters—helping to prevent localized flooding during heavy rainfall—but it also eliminates hazardous materials like metal particles and other pollutants left behind by vehicles.
As the program transitions from pilot to implementation, below are some key updates:
- Beginning in May, NDOT will begin issuing citations for vehicles parked in violation of posted street sweeping signs.
- Starting in July, vehicles that are illegally parked during designated street sweeping times will also be towed in addition to the citation.
Street sweeping occurs on the first and second Thursday of each month, between 8:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m., NDOT will sweep the designated streets.

Community members are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the street sweeping schedule in areas where they park and make necessary arrangements to avoid penalties and support this important initiative. The best way to do this is to read the signs on the street where you park.
