The Gallatin Pike Corridor is on Nashville’s Vision Zero Action Plan’s High Injury Network and has been identified as one of Nashville’s most dangerous roads. Beginning in 2023, the Nashville Department of Transportation & Multimodal Infrastructure led a visioning process for the corridor and engaged with residents, business owners, and community leaders to identify next steps for a suite of safety improvements.
What we heard
People living on, working on, and traveling the corridor want a safer experience--this includes better accommodations for people walking, biking, and using transit.
In November of 2024, the Choose How You Move transportation referendum passed. Included in this comprehensive program of transportation projects is the Gallatin Pike All-Access Corridor stretching from downtown to Rivergate. Planning for this transformational project, featuring high-frequency bus service with strategically located dedicated transit lanes, smarter signals, and safety and accessibility improvements, will build upon existing engagement efforts and kick-off in mid-2026.
What we’re doing now
While the longer-term vision for the corridor is being developed, NDOT is leading a Vision Zero safety project spanning Main St./Gallatin Pike from S. 5th Street to Briley Parkway.
The improvements include:
- Repaving from South 5th Street to Briley Pkwy summer 2026.
- Safety improvements will include a new striping plan, new and enhanced crossings, pedestrian intersection improvements, pedestrian signage, intersection bulb outs, and updated school zone markings and signage.
