The Special Victims Division investigates complaints and assists victims of the following crimes: Adult Sexual Assaults, Human Trafficking, and Internet Crimes Against Children.
The team’s trauma informed approach strives to build trust as victims come forward to report these intimate crimes. The detectives are specially trained in sexual assault investigations, victimization, and gathering evidence. They are also trained in the intricacies of human trafficking, to include sex trafficking of both adult and juveniles, labor trafficking, and organized prostitution. This division created a community initiative, Not for Sale Nashville, to build public awareness and training around human trafficking in our area.
Sexual Assault Section
The Sexual Assault Section contains the Sexual Assault Investigations Unit, which investigates adult sexual assault, the Sex Offender Registry Unit which registers sex offenders and investigates registry violations within Davidson County, and the Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) which investigates cybercrime targeting children. Detectives of the Sexual Assault Section are also dual trained to investigate complainants of human trafficking. Detectives investigate sex trafficking, both adult and juvenile, labor trafficking, and organized prostitution.
The Sexual Assault Section created a community initiative, Not for Sale Nashville, to build awareness and training around human trafficking in the community.

The Special Victims Division partners with the Sexual Assault Center, The Family Safety Center, The Family Intervention Program, and Ancora TN to provide services to victims of sexual assault and human trafficking.
Adult Sexual Assault Investigations Section
The Adult Sexual Assault Investigations section investigates incidents of sexual assault offenses where the victim is of adult age. Members of this section work closely with the District Attorney’s Office, The Office of Family Safety and the Sexual Assault Center. The ideal set of events is that the victim receives immediate trauma-informed care, police arrest the offender, and attorneys prosecute the case. Promoting this response requires effective partnerships and communication from all involved entities. Members also take part in a number community outreach activities and educational/awareness initiatives.
Internet Crimes Against Children
The Internet Crimes Against Children Unit (ICAC) Unit investigates tips and complaints of online child exploitation, which most frequently include the receipt and distribution of inappropriate images of children.
Sex Offender Registry Unit
The Sex Offender Registry Unit is responsible for ensuring the proper registration of sex offenders who have been ordered on the registry through a court order.
