Update: Officers this morning arrested a third member of the same family in connection with the May 15 shooting incident described below. Bianca Ramos’ 18-year-old son, who was age 17 at the time of the gunfire, has now been charged at Juvenile Court with two counts of attempted criminal homicide, robbery, and use of a gun in the commission of a dangerous felony. He is being held pending a detention hearing. Continuing work by Specialized Investigations Division detectives led to the identification of the now 18-year-old as the person alleged to have been firing the automatic rifle (recovered on May 15 from the air vent of the family’s Hasty Drive residence). The 18-year-old’s fingerprints were subsequently found on the gun.
Bianca Ramos is free on a $50,000 bond. She is scheduled to appear in court on July 17 on charges of machine gun possession and tampering with evidence. Ramos’ 16-year-old son was also arrested on May 15 on charges of unlawful gun possession and driving without a license.
A 16-year-old and his mother have been arrested in connection to Friday morning’s gunfire in the area of McMurray Drive and Greenleaf Drive that seriously injured a 19-year-old man.
Hours of work by Specialized Investigations Division detectives has determined that the 16-year-old and 19-year-old arranged to meet in the parking lot of McMurray Manor apartments to transact a deal for THC Vape pens. The deal went bad, and shots were fired. The 16-year-old admitted to shooting a pistol after, he said, shots were fired from the car being driven by the 19-year-old. As the car drove away through the neighborhood, additional shots were fired at it by a young man using an automatic rifle. The investigation is continuing to confirm the identify that individual.
An automatic rifle believed to have been the gun used in the shooting was recovered from an air vent of a home on Hasty Drive in which the 16-year-old and his mother live. The mother, Bianca Ramos, 36, claimed the rifle was hers and that she had put it in the air vent to keep it away from her children. She also admitted to removing a pistol from the SUV the 16-year-old had been driving Friday morning and hiding the gun under a tarp in the driveway. Detectives recovered it there. During the execution of a search warrant at the Hasty Drive home, detectives seized three additional guns, a federally regulated suppressor, body armor and multiple rounds of ammunition and ammunition magazines.
Ramos is charged with evidence tampering and possession of a machine gun. A judicial commissioner set her bond at $50,000. Her 16-year-old son is charged at Juvenile Court with unlawful gun possession and driving without a license. Additional charges against him will be considered as this investigation continues. Detectives have not yet had the opportunity to interview the 19-year-old shooting victim due to his medical status.
