Homicide Unit detectives this morning swore out a murder warrant against Anthony Eugene Summers, 53, for Tuesday afternoon’s brutal fatal stabbing of an acquaintance, Daniel Baynes, 58, inside a home that was being remodeled at 3224 Lake Shore Drive in Old Hickory.
A construction contractor found Baynes dead inside the home at 3:30 p.m. and called police. Officers were told that Baynes was assisting with the remodel and was being allowed to stay on the property. Baynes was found to have multiple stab wounds, including to his face and abdomen.
Baynes’ pickup truck, a 2010 red Ford F-150, was missing from the residence. Investigation by TITANS (The Investigative Team Addressing Neighborhood Shootings) and Homicide detectives led to the discovery of the truck in a parking space outside of a cell phone store at 811 Dickerson Pike. Summers was in the store. He ran from detectives after exiting and was subsequently taken into custody. During an interview at police headquarters, Summers admitted that he was involved in a fight with Baynes.
Summers is being treated at a local hospital for an injury to his hand sustained during the fight and will be booked on the criminal homicide charge later today.
Detective Russ Thompson is leading this investigation.
