Homicide Unit detectives are charging Edgar Lopez, 20, with evidence tampering and making false statements to police in connection with Wednesday morning’s fatal shooting of his brother, Jose Lopez-Rivas, 24, on Woodbine Street.
The investigation shows Edgar Lopez was present at the time of the shooting and lied about the circumstances when he was interviewed early Wednesday. Video evidence obtained after that interview showed Edgar Lopez assisting an as yet unidentified individual in moving the victim’s body from the middle of the street. The two also appeared to go through his pockets.
During a second interview at police headquarters Thursday night, Lopez admitted to lying, saying he did so to try and find the shooting suspect on his own.
Detectives are pursuing strong leads as this investigation continues.
