Specialized Investigations Division detectives Wednesday night charged a 22-year-old convicted felon on probation with the shooting earlier Wednesday of a 17-year-old in the 500 block of S. 5th Street. The victim suffered wounds to his forehead as a result of the 4:30 a.m. gunfire. He is being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Latrell Knott is being held without bond on a number of criminal counts, including attempted murder.
Detectives determined that the person responsible for the shooting emerged from a white Kia Optima before firing on the 17-year-old. Knott was linked to the car, which was found parked outside his girlfriend’s Clifton Avenue Apartment. Knott came out of the apartment Wednesday afternoon and was arrested after a brief foot chase. He was armed with a Glock pistol equipped with a switch to make it a fully automatic weapon.
In addition to attempted criminal homicide, Knott is charged with gun possession by a convicted felon, possession of a prohibited automatic gun, evading arrest, and 10 counts of statutory rape for having a relationship with a juvenile teenage girl who is pregnant by him.
Knott has convictions in Nashville as well as Montgomery and Rutherford Counties. In Nashville, he was convicted of vehicle theft, felony gun possession, and felony evading arrest in August 2024. He was given a probated three-year sentence.
The investigation into Wednesday morning’s shooting is continuing with at least one additional arrest possible.
