Outstanding, coordinated police work by Violent Crimes Division detectives, officers assigned to the Vehicle Crimes and Violent Crimes Reduction Initiatives, and a Nashville Police Department helicopter crew resulted in Monday morning’s arrest of three teen carjacking suspects. One of them, Amare Ramey, 18, had been on the Warrants Division Most Wanted list for allegedly firing shots into a River Drive home on May 13, striking a male victim in the shoulder.
The carjacking occurred Sunday at 11 p.m. on Kellow Street. Three suspects, Ramey, Wade Gibson, 15, and Jaquise Sims, 14, are accused of taking the victim’s 2014 Ford Fiesta at gunpoint. Officers immediately began looking for the car, locating it near 12th Avenue South and South Street. They attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver fled at a high rate of speed. A police helicopter crew followed the Ford until it partially stopped in the 600 block of Wedgewood Avenue where all three fled on foot. The helicopter crew assisted detectives and Canine Unit officers on the ground in taking all three into custody. A handgun was recovered. Sims was positively identified as the suspect who took the vehicle at gunpoint. During an interview, Sims admitted that he approached the victim armed with a gun and was driving the Ford Fiesta. Gibson also admitted his involvement in the robbery. Ramey refused to be interviewed.
All three are charged with aggravated robbery and the investigation continues into their involvement in other similar cases.
Additionally, Ramey is charged with two counts of aggravated assault in relation to the May incident. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond. Sims and Gibson are charged in Juvenile Court.
