Central Precinct detectives arrested Robert McWilliams III, 21, a convicted felon, again Wednesday night after more than 20 vehicles have been broken into since last November, mostly at a business on Cowan Street. McWilliams was arrested January 23 for the car break-ins, but was out on bond when an additional motor vehicle burglary warrant was issued.
McWilliams was identified as the suspect after 10 vehicles were burglarized on Cowan Street in November and a handgun was stolen by a man in a Nissan Murano. After reviewing footage, detectives recognized McWilliams from previous burglary convictions as the person in the Murano.
He confessed his involvement in the string of break-ins and his Murano was recovered.
McWilliams was also booked on a felony probation violation warrant Wednesday.
