TITANS Unit detectives last night observed an illegal drug transaction on South 6th Street which resulted in the recovery of two firearms, cocaine, and cash.
Detectives attempted to stop a Nissan Maxima following the transaction, but the driver, Anthony L. Powell, 21, refused to stop. The police helicopter followed and spike strips were successfully deployed. Powell and his passenger, Deonquae Scott, 20, bailed from the car on I-24 West near the Briley Parkway entrance ramp and ran into a wood line. They were both taken into custody a short time later.
Two handguns were recovered from the side of the Interstate. Inside the car, detectives recovered 13.3 grams of cocaine and a digital scale.
Powell is charged with evading arrest by motor vehicle, evading arrest, gun possession during the commission of a felony, and cocaine possession. He was also served with an outstanding domestic violence warrant. Powell has a felony drug possession and unlawful gun possession conviction from December 2024 that resulted in a five-year probated sentence.
Scott is charged with evading arrest and misdemeanor drug possession for having a pill without a prescription. Scott, who was convicted of felony evading in July and received a two-year probated sentence, is free on $4,000 bond.
