Investigation by Vehicle Crimes detectives resulted in Monday night's arrest of two young women and the recovery of two stolen vehicles and a stolen gun.
Detectives were conducting surveillance on a stolen 2014 white Lexus in the Edgehill area when Khania Donnell, 19, and her 17-year-old female passenger drove off in the car. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle, but Donnell fled. Spike strips were successfully deployed. Donnell stopped on the ramp from I-65 South to I-440 West and both teens were taken into custody around 8:15 p.m. Detectives recovered a license plate inside the Lexus that belonged to a stolen Nissan Maxima. The Maxima was recovered directly on the opposite side of I-440's concrete barrier. Detectives believe they were attempting to switch vehicles prior to their arrest.
A stolen gun, marijuana, vehicle burglary tools, and a vehicle programmer were found inside the 17-year-old's bag. The gun was reported stolen on May 31 from a vehicle parked in the secured lot of 9 City Place apartments.
Donnell is charged with two counts of vehicle theft, theft of a firearm, possession of burglary tools, and evading arrest. She is jailed on $47,500 bond. The second teen is charged with Juvenile Court with vehicle theft, theft of a firearm, and possession of burglary tools.
