North Precinct detectives a short time ago charged Jamontez Sherrell, 19, with criminal homicide for Tuesday’s 1:30 a.m. fatal shooting of Larenzo Gates, 26, near the corner of 17th Avenue North and Cockrill Street.
During an interview, Sherrell, of 16th Avenue North, admitted that he shot Gates during an argument. Officers found Gates lying in the 1500 block of 17th Avenue North. He was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died.
The gun used in the murder was also recovered.
