Central Precinct detectives continue to investigate a claim of self-defense in Monday night’s fatal shooting of Timothy K. White, 23, in the parking lot of Eleven North Apartments at 300 11th Avenue North.
The investigation to this point shows that White exchanged shots with Wontez Graham, 26. Both men’s pistols have been recovered.
Officers responded to a shooting call in the parking lot at 8:50 p.m. White was found on the pavement critically wounded. Officer Brent Morris provided immediate first-aid before he was relieved by paramedics. White was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died during surgery.
Graham was not on the scene when officers arrived, but came back with his father. Graham told officers that just after he parked at his apartment complex and was getting out of his Jeep Cherokee, a hooded man walked up and pulled a pistol. Graham said he pulled his own gun from the door of the Jeep and exchanged shots with the hooded man, who he said may have been trying to rob him of the Jeep. Graham and his girlfriend fled the scene unharmed to a nearby grocery store before they returned with his father. Graham’s gun was collected and he and his girlfriend were taken to the Central Precinct for interviews. Both were allowed to leave after giving statements.
At the time of his death, White was under indictment on two counts of attempted murder and was free on bond. He was charged with shooting into a car containing two women in East Nashville in 2017. One of the women suffered a bullet wound to her upper back. White had a September 2020 court date.
