Fraud and Sex Crimes detectives are warning Nashvillians about an ongoing phone scam where persons identify themselves as a Metro Nashville Police sex crimes detective, using an actual Metro officer’s name, and demand money from the victim if they want to avoid being placed on the sex offender registry. The caller ID can show up as a Metro Police phone number which has been “spoofed” in order to fool victims.
An important reminder: No member of the Metro Nashville Police Department will ever solicit money. The public is urged to be cautious when giving personal information to someone who is not a confirmed and trusted source. Think before you send money out of fear. Please contact the MNPD’s Fraud Unit at 615-862-7594 with any questions/concerns regarding this scam.
