Violent Crimes Division detectives are working to identify the vehicle burglar who, when confronted Sunday at 12:10 a.m., fired shots at the victim/homeowner outside his Colby Drive residence.
The victim called police and reported that when he saw the suspect in his driveway, he walked outside and told the man, who was rummaging around in the victim’s car, to leave. The suspect produced a pistol. As the victim approached the burglar, the suspect fired twice, striking the victim in the leg. The homeowner was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The suspect, described as a black man who appears to be in his 20s or 30s, fled on foot. Nothing was taken from the victim’s car.
There has not been a pattern of vehicle break-ins in that neighborhood, however, South Precinct officers will be providing extra patrols in the area. Overlapping shifts with additional officers on the street are at their peak between 9 p.m. and 1 a.m.
The MNPD advises Nashvillians that whenever possible, do not confront suspects. Rather, call police and provide them with the best suspect information possible.
