The woman critically shot by her ex-boyfriend on November 15 at her family’s Vanna Court home in Antioch has died.
Michaela Carter, 24, suffered wounds to her chest and leg. She died in the hospital Monday. The investigation shows that James Leggett, 27, against whom Carter had an active order of protection, kicked in the door of the home and opened fire. Carter’s father, Mbuyi Tshibangu, 46, suffered non-critical wounds to his jaw and hand.
Leggett was charged on the night of November 15 with two counts of attempted murder, aggravated stalking, aggravated burglary and unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon. The attempted murder charge in relation to Carter will be upgraded to criminal homicide. Leggett remains jailed in lieu of $1.2 million bond.
