Updated: Mr. Smith was located unharmed after walking up to a residence in the 1500 block of Hunters Lane. It appears that he had been lost, wandering in the woods.
Missing Persons detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in locating 84-year-old Austin Smith who was last seen Sunday at 6 a.m. in the 1500 block of Hunters Lane after he ran his pickup truck off the road. He walked to a nearby house and asked a resident where he was, before walking back toward his vehicle which remained on the side of the road.
Officers and Mr. Smith’s family responded to the area in an attempt to locate him. Officers and detectives also checked his Walsh Street apartment, hospitals, and other locations but were unsuccessful. A TBI Silver Alert was issued Sunday. According to his family, Mr. Smith is in poor health and showing signs of memory loss.
Anyone living in a one-mile radius of the 1500 block of Hunters Lane are asked to check their property, especially outbuildings and garages for Mr. Smith. Beginning tomorrow (Wednesday) at 7 a.m., Mounted Patrol officers and Urban Search and Rescue team members will be searching the area for Mr. Smith.
