Five male juveniles, three age 15 and two age 16, were taken into custody today by the Rapid School Safety Team, with assistance from Violent Crimes Division detectives, at a gas station on Old Hickory Boulevard near Bell Road after an investigative traffic stop. During the stop, two handguns were recovered from the Nissan Titan truck in which the teens were riding.
On Tuesday Rapid School Safety Team officers responded to a shots fired call near Cane Ridge High School where a reported Nissan Titan was involved. The school was placed on a brief lockdown due to the report. 47 shell casings were recovered in the area of Sprucedale Drive.
Officers following up on the investigation Wednesday were able to retrieve more information about the Titan based on a nearby neighborhood's license plate reader cameras.
This afternoon officers located the Titan while patrolling the area of Sprucedale Drive, followed it for a short time, and conducted the traffic stop. The five teenagers, none of whom attend Cane Ridge High School, exited the Titan and were taken into custody.
9mm and .40 caliber handguns were recovered from inside the Titan.
All five teens are charged at Juvenile Court with reckless endangerment and juvenile handgun possession. The 16-year-old driver was also charged with not having a license and alteration of identification numbers.
