Quick police response to the sounds of gunfire in the area of CWA Apartments on S. 5th Street early today led to the arrest of three teenagers, one adult, and the seizure of six guns, three of them stolen.
Specialized Investigations Division detectives, who have been working to identify those responsible for recent gunfire in the vicinity of CWA Apartments and Cayce public housing, were in the area quickly and learned that individuals wanted for questioning in this morning’s gunfire had gone into an apartment on Summer Place. Upon entering that apartment with the consent of the leaseholder, detectives observed three guns on a living room couch. During the execution of a search warrant, three additional guns were found. Of the six recovered, three were reported stolen.
Four persons from the apartment, one adult and three teens, were arrested. Jonterious Winston, 19, is charged with three counts of gun theft and three counts of contributing to the delinquency of minors. A judicial commissioner set his bond at $75,000.
The three juveniles, one age 16, two age 15, are each charged with three counts of gun theft and one count of unlawful gun possession.
The four arrested remain under investigation as detectives await the results of ballistics testing on the recovered guns.
