Gang Unit detectives late this afternoon arrested fugitive Majok Chol, 21, on charges that he assisted Brandon Caruthers while Caruthers was on escape status from the Juvenile Justice Center. Chol, who is also wanted by the U.S. Marshal’s Service for violating the terms of his federal pretrial release, was apprehended as he walked out of a Thompson Lane barber shop. He carried a pistol that fires 5.7 millimeter bullets, which are capable of piercing body armor.
Investigation by Youth Services detectives determined that Chol assisted Caruthers, 17, while Caruthers was on escape status between November 30 and December 12. Chol arranged for Caruthers to stay at an apartment on Arbor Crest Boulevard in Antioch, where Caruthers was apprehended by MNPD SWAT officers on the afternoon of December 12.
A judicial commissioner set bond for Chol at $27,000; however, the federal government has placed a hold on him which, for now, prevents Chol from posting bail.
