Update: The man fatally stabbed in a church parking lot on Gallatin Pike has been identified as James Cane Jr., 44. Detectives continue to work to identify the second man who stabbed Cane. He fled the scene while officers were rendering aid to Cane. Anyone with information about him is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
Homicide detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the overnight fatal stabbing of an unidentified man following an argument in the parking lot of 719 Gallatin Pike S.
At 12:04 a.m. Monday, a Madison Precinct officer was driving down Gallatin Pike when he observed/heard a fight occurring in the parking lot of Madison First Baptist Church. The officer pulled into the parking lot and located two men on the ground arguing about a robbery/stabbing. One of them was covered in blood and had obvious stab wounds to his torso. He said that the other male had stabbed him. The second unidentified man was also on the ground. He said that the severely wounded man had tried to rob him. As officers were in the process of attempting life saving measures, he fled from the parking lot on foot. Additional responding officers searched the area and were unable to locate him.
The stabbing victim was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he died.
Efforts are underway to positively identify him and to identify/locate the second man.
