Homicide Unit detectives are working to identify the suspect involved in this morning’s fatal shooting of Michael Robinson, 37, of Memphis, outside of the Honey Suckle Market on Lafayette Street. The preliminary investigation indicates a group of men (seen in attached images) were standing near a white Chevrolet Malibu at one of the gas pumps when a brief verbal interaction took place with the driver of a white Jeep parked at another pump.
As the driver of the Jeep backs out and begins to leave the market, the suspect (seen smoking near the Malibu with wording on his shirt in surveillance images) opens fire on the Jeep. The Jeep then accelerated and crashed into the side of the market.
Robinson, one of five occupants in the Jeep was fatally struck, and another occupant was injured non-critically. Both were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where Robinson died.
The suspect appears to have fled in a black Nissan sedan.
