Update: Janiyah Batey, 19, has died from her injuries. Charges against Martavious Luster, 16, will be amended to criminal homicide. Both from witness statements and evidence obtained at the scene Monday, Homicide detectives believe that Demario Anderson, who was fatally wounded, Luster, and two other unidentified armed individuals attempted to rob Batey. During a brief altercation, both Batey and the other individuals exchanged gunfire. Batey’s round is believed to have struck Anderson. She was shot in the return gunfire and drove off but crashed a short time later. Luster admitted that he approached Batey wearing a ski mask and armed with a gun. The investigation into the identity of the other two suspects continues.
