TITANS detectives Monday conducted investigations around James Cayce Homes to address ongoing criminal activity in the area. In three separate cases, they recovered four handguns, one imitation Glock handgun, and ten grams of fentanyl.
In the first case, detectives saw a car driving at a high rate of speed near Sylvan Street and South 9th Street where a passenger entered the vehicle. The passenger, who was carrying a backpack, got out of the car in an alleyway nearby. When approached by officers, he immediately discarded the backpack and fled on foot. Detectives recovered three loaded handguns from the backpack. A short time later, they located the vehicle, abandoned.
In the second case, detectives saw two 15-year-old males standing near South 7th Street and Sylvan Street. One was carrying what appeared to be a tan handgun in his waistband and wearing a ski mask. They began walking in the area of South 7th Street and Fatherland Street where an investigative stop was conducted. The juvenile with the gun told officers it was a "fake". The weapon was indeed an imitation Glock handgun. The replica handgun was seized. Both were interviewed and released. The investigation into their potential involvement in motor vehicle burglaries continues.
Finally, a stop was conducted on a sedan after the 32-year-old male driver committed several traffic violations. He was in possession of approximately ten grams of fentanyl, a digital scale and a handgun. He is charged with drug possession. The investigation in this case is also continuing.
