A gunman is in custody this evening after he opened fire on three Madison Precinct detectives just before 1 p.m. on Dickerson Pike. They returned fire.
Detectives attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a white Chevrolet Tahoe, that was being investigated for illegal narcotics activity, when the vehicle fled.
The Tahoe was disabled and wrecked in the 3500 block of Dickerson Pike. As detectives started to approach the Tahoe, the driver, Demond Buchanan, 45, began shooting at them from the driver’s seat.
Buchanan unloaded an entire magazine from his pistol as he fired at the detectives.
Three Madison Precinct detectives returned fire.
No one was injured in the exchange.
Buchanan, who was wanted on 13 outstanding warrants, was taken into custody. Three aggravated assault warrants, in addition to drug-related charges, are anticipated.
