Specialized Investigations Division TITANS detectives this afternoon apprehended Jordan A. Smith, 24, who is now jailed on multiple felony counts, including criminal homicide, for last Tuesday night’s fatal shooting of his acquaintance, Dana Corley, 26, near the intersection of 16th Avenue South and Wedgewood Avenue. Corley was found early Wednesday with multiple gunshot wounds in the driver seat of his Nissan Altima, which had crashed into a tree.
The investigation shows that in the minutes prior to the shooting, Smith saw Corley inside the Circle K market on Belmont Boulevard. Smith, who was sitting in a vehicle outside the market because his girlfriend worked there, said that he had issues with Corley in the past. Smith entered the market and, at gunpoint, escorted Corley out. After the two were outside, Smith is alleged to have robbed an unarmed Corley of his cell phone. Corley drove away from the property. Moments later, Smith also drove out of the parking lot in the same direction. Smith said that he fired on Corley’s vehicle when they were side by side near the 16th Avenue South/Wedgewood intersection because he was in fear.
TITANS detectives located Smith this afternoon at an apartment complex on Buena Vista Pike and took him into custody. In addition to the murder count, Homicide detectives have also charged Smith with aggravated kidnapping (for forcing Corley out of the market), aggravated robbery, and evidence tampering. He is being held without bond.
