Outstanding investigative work by Madison Precinct detectives led to the identification and arrest of Brian Conley, 31, for Tuesday night’s brutal fatal stabbing of Melissa Hamilton, 50, inside her workplace at Crossroads Counseling, 521 Gallatin Pike South.
After reviewing video evidence gathered from the area, detectives determined that Conley entered the front door of Crossroads Counseling Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. It appears that he and Hamilton had a brief interaction before the lights were turned out. After approximately 15 minutes, Conley left through the rear exit. It does not appear that the two knew each other prior to the attack or that Conley had been a client.
Conley, of Pueblo Drive, was arrested this afternoon outside the Madison Public Library which is directly across the street from Crossroads Counseling. He had checked out a book on Tuesday and returned to the library today where he was taken into custody. Conley, who refused to speak to detectives, had a wound to his right hand consistent with Hamilton’s stab wounds.
