Update: The man shot to death Friday morning has been identified through his fingerprints as Daryl Quintin Shannon, 18, of Nashville. The investigation is continuing to confirm the identity of the second suspect involved.
Homicide Unit detectives are investigating a potential drug motive in this morning’s murder of an as yet unidentified man who was fatally shot as he sat in the driver’s seat of a Dodge Journey van in the parking lot of Paddock at Grandview Apartments, 5515 Scruggs Lane.
Brandon Waire, 20, is being charged tonight with criminal homicide in this case. Efforts are continuing to confirm the name of a second suspect.
The investigation, being led by Detectives Derry Baltimore and Al Thompson in conjunction with the TITANS Unit from the Specialized Investigations Division, shows that two persons, including Waire, approached the Dodge van from a silver Hyundai car shortly before 5 a.m. The victim was fatally shot while interacting with the two. After the gunfire, the Hyundai fled to Glastonbury Woods Apartments at 665 Glastonbury Road. It was vacant when officers found it. A short time later five persons approached the car, including Waire. All five were brought to MNPD headquarters for questioning.
One of those persons, a 16-year-old, was in possession of a pistol believed to be the murder weapon. The 16-year-old has been charged at Juvenile Court with being an accessory after the fact of homicide, unlawful gun possession, possession of cocaine for resale, and marijuana possession.
Another of the individuals, Dakiyah Childress, 19, who owns the Hyundai, is charged with tampering with evidence and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Childress is alleged to have altered the exterior appearance of her car by removing black duct tape from the rear bumper in an effort to prevent police from finding it.
