Update: David Lee Harris, 31, was arrested today and charged with evidence tampering for taking the pistol from the Valvoline bay. A tip to Crime Stoppers helped detectives identify Harris as the suspect. Harris was found at a homeless camp off Cane Ridge Road. The gun has not been recovered.
The man fatally shot at 5 p.m. Wednesday inside a bay of the Valvoline Instant Oil Change shop at 1109 Bell Road has been positively identified as Larry Johnson, Jr., 33.
Johnson was shot by the manager of the store, Brooklyn Key, after Johnson fired on and wounded one of the employees.
Moments after Johnson was shot, an unknown individual walked into the bay, picked up Johnson’s gun from the floor, and fled. Detectives are working to identify him. Anyone recognizing that individual from the attached surveillance images is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers to Crime Stoppers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
