Nicholas Spivey, 20, has been identified as the man killed in a targeted shooting yesterday afternoon at Valley Ridge Apartments on Harding Pike, where Spivey lived. Homicide Unit detectives continue to search for at least two, possibly three, male black suspects that fled the scene in a silver Hyundai Sonata.
Evidence shows that Spivey and the assailant(s) were taking part in a prearranged meeting when the gunfire took place. A drug motive is suspected in that drug packaging materials were found inside Spivey’s apartment and, at the time of the shooting, Spivey was carrying more than $3,200 cash. Spivey was shot multiple times after the backseat passenger got out of the Sonata and opened fire. Men inside Spivey’s apartment returned fire after witnessing the shooting.
Five firearms, including a stolen pistol as well as an AR-style rifle, were found inside the apartment during the execution of a search warrant.
Spivey was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Anyone with information on this fatal shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. Callers can remain anonymous and qualify for a cash reward.
