The man killed in Thursday’s 5:20 p.m. two-vehicle head-on collision in the 7900 block of Whites Creek Pike is identified as Nicholas J. Mulder, 73, of Springfield, Tennessee.
The preliminary investigation indicates Mulder was driving his 2019 Ford Fiesta northbound on Whites Creek Pike when, for reasons unknown, he crossed the double yellow line into oncoming traffic and collided with a southbound 2015 Ford Escape. He died at the scene.
A 7-year-old child in the Escape was critically injured. The 25-year-old male driver and a 26-year-old female front seat passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries. All three were transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
There were no indicators of impairment on behalf of either driver. All occupants are believed to have been restrained at the time of the crash. The preliminary cause of the crash is failure to maintain lane of travel on behalf of Mulder.
