A Nashville man with 11 felony convictions in his past, and who was on bond for a May 2024 robbery/shooting arrest, is back in jail charged with the attempted murder of a 24-year-old man early Sunday at the intersection of Lafayette and Lincoln Streets.
George Charles Carter III, 48, is charged with the attempted murder of Behroz Salmani, 24, who was shot Sunday morning while inside his vehicle. A witness reported hearing an argument over money prior to the gunfire. A wounded Salmani accelerated in his Jeep Wrangler and collided with a Toyota SUV. Salmani had serious wounds to both his arms. The persons in the Toyota were uninjured. Surveillance video led to the identification of Carter as the suspect who fled the scene in a Dodge Avenger.
Coordinated work by Specialized Investigations Division detectives led to Monday’s arrest of Carter after he led officers and a police helicopter on a pursuit driving a Dodge Avenger. Detectives spotted the Avenger Monday back in the Lafayette Street area and tried to stop it, leading Carter to flee.
In addition to attempted murder, Carter is charged with unlawful gun possession by a convicted felon, gun possession in the commission of a dangerous felony, evading arrest, and possession of meth for resale. His bond is set at $1,226,000.
At the time of his arrest Monday, Carter was free on $50,000 stemming from his arrest last May for shooting and robbing a man on Herman Street.
