Update: Robert Crawford III, 20, of Old Hickory, has been identified as the driver killed in Wednesday’s crash on Brick Church Pike.
A Mississippi driver is charged tonight with vehicular homicide by reckless conduct following this afternoon’s crash in the 2400 block of Brick Church Pike that killed the 20-year-old driver of a Honda Civic. The preliminary investigation indicates Joshua McNeal, 18, of Cleveland, Mississippi, was driving a Ram 1500 pickup truck northbound at a high rate of speed when he attempted to pass vehicles in the center two-way left-turn lane.
He then swerved to avoid another vehicle, entered oncoming traffic in the southbound lane and lost control. The Ram struck the southbound Honda head-on.
A northbound Toyota Camry was also struck by one of the vehicles during the collision. The Toyota driver was not injured.
There were no signs of impairment at the scene on part of any driver.
The 20-year-old Honda driver was transported to Skyline Medical Center where he died. Efforts are underway to notify his family.
McNeal’s two passengers were also transported to local hospitals with minor injuries.
McNeal was transported to Skyline and released before being booked on charges of vehicular homicide by reckless conduct, reckless endangerment with a motor vehicle, and three counts of aggravated assault.
